Abstract
cIron oxide nanoparticles wese doped with Cobalt through the Ball Milling method at
various percentages of 0 wt.%, 5 wt.% and 10 wt.%. Crystal size structure and product
identification were determined using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and X-ray
Fluorescence (XRF). The results showed that the product contained the hematite phase
(α-Fe2O3) with a Rhombohedral crystal structure. The crystal size decreases with
increasing Cobalt concentration. Before doping, the Fe element had a concentration of
52.139% while after Cobalt 5 wt.% doping the concentration of Fe became 45.468%.
Other elements such as Ti, Mn, Si, P, Ca, Cr, Zn, Ag, and Pb also decreased. The ability
of nanoparticles as a catalyst in UV-Vis spectroscopy and showed a poor ability to
degrade methylene blue in aqueous solution. The best efficiency when hematite was
doped with Cobalt 0 wt.%, 5 wt.% and 10 wt.% in the first 20 minutes were 81.62%,
70.909% and 82.856%, respectively.
