Supercapacitors are renewable energy storage devices that have relatively high power density and performance, as well as fast charging-discharging. Activated carbon is one of the materials that can be used as electrodes because from amorphous carbon materials with high porosity and large surface area. The addition of catalysts aims to convert amorphous carbon into graphitic carbon with a hight degree of graphitization. This research utilized oil plam frond waste (PKS) without and with the addition of 0,1 M and 0,2 M NiCl2 catalysts with the respective sample codes namely PKS, PKS-01, and PKS- 02. Making carbon electrodes is carried out using several processes, precarbonization process, chemical activation using a KOH activator and the addition of a NiCl2 catalyst, the carbonization process using N2 gas at a temperature of 600oC and physical activation using CO2 gas at a temperature of 800oC. The highest density shrinkage was found in the PKS-01 sample namely 31,0534%.
