Abstract

The research about application of cooperative learning Word Square model to increase student’s achievement in chemistry especially colloid topic at 11th of SMAN 4 Pekanbaru had done in May 2012. The purpose of this research was to know if the application of cooperative learning model Word Square could increase student achievement in colloid topic. Subject of this research were students at XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2 in academic year 2011/2012 that had been tested its homogeneity. XI IPA 1 class was randomly selected as experiment class and XI IPA 2 class as control class. Cooperative learning Word Square model applied in XI IPA 1 class. Research results revealed that application cooperative learning Word Square model was capable to improve student’s achievement in chemistry especially in colloid topic (t arithmetic > t table; 1,94>1,67). The improvement of student’s achievement in experiment class was supported by N-Gain score 0,83 that included in high category.
