Abstract
Supercapacitor is a renewable energy storage device that has a very large power
density and charge storage capacity. The main components of a supercapacitor are
electrodes, electrolyte, current collector and separator. In this research, carbon
electrodes were made from salak shell biomass with various chemical activators
with respective sample codes, namely KS-ZnCl2, KS-KOH and KS-NaOH. The
manufacture of carbon electrodes is carried out by several processes, namely precarbonization,
chemical activation with the activating agents used are KOH,
NaOH and ZnCl2 with a concentration of 0.5 M, the carbonization process using
N2 gas at a temperature of 600○C and physical activation using CO2 gas at a
temperature of 800○C. Pre-carbonized mass shrinkage of 29,29%. The smallest
density value was found at the carbon electrode in the KS-KOH that is 0,76 gcm-3.
This research concluded that KOH was the optimum activating agent for the best
performance of the supercapacitor from salak shell biomass.
