Abstract

Ritual Bakar Tongkang is one that is religious culture for chinese people in Bagansiapiapi. This ritual is done by burning a replica barge. This culture is very unique and the only one in Indonesia, even in the world, namely in Bagansiapiapi District Rokan Hilir, Riau Province. The government makes it as one of the national attractions, which will bring a positive impact to the development and progress of the local area. The study was conducted to determine how the procession and what the function of the ritual Bakar Tongkang for the tionghoa community in Bagansiapiapi. To find out processions and functions of ritual Bakar Tongkang for the tionghoa community in Bagansiapiapi, the researchers determined that the research subject, tanks, steering committee, the march attendees, audience or spectators. The ritual begins with a prayer, praying events done in two parts, before and after barge buried in Shrine Ing Hok Kiong, on 15 and 16 in the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. The meaning of the ritual Bakar Tongkang that commemorate the ancestors and as an expression of gratitude to God Kie Ong Ya and God Tai Sun who gave blessings and salvation to their ancestors in search of a decent place to finally find Bagansiapiapi. The function of ritual Bakar Tongkang is to determine the direction fortune divination, which is trusted by the community tionghoa. If the mast of a ship fall to the land then good luck / fortune better source comes from the land and vice versa, if the mast of a ship fall to the seaward then luck / better sources of livelihood from the sea. The other function are to purify the property and to remove negative auras that exist in the city Bagansiapiapi. In ritual Bakar Tongkang there are adaptation function. Function Goal Attainment, Integration function, the function of Latent Pattern Maintenance.
