INCREASING STUDENT LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING TYPE STAD ON THE THERMODINAMIC SUBJECT

Abstract
Thermodinamics” is one of the ‘creative mastery subjects’ offered to the fourth
semester students 2010/2011 academic year. There are sixty students joining the class. So far,
the students’ grades in learning ‘ Thermodinamics’ have not been satisfactory. The problems
to besolved through “lesson study program” is to increase students’ activities during the
learning and it will automatically increase students’ achievements through the application of
cooperative learning type STAD.Implementation of lesson study designed for four cycles
with each cycle follows activity ‘plan’, ‘do’and ‘see’. The activity ‘plan’ is done before
lecturing activity and the activity ‘see’ is done after the activity do at the same day. The data
about students’ learning activities are collected through observation by four observers. The
instrument used is observation sheet for students’ activities. The data of students’ learning
activity achievement are collected through written test in the form of essay. The data dealing
with students’ learning activity areanalyzed qualitatively, while the data about student
achievement are got through the analysis of test. The results of data analysis show that thre is
an incrasing in the students ‘activities at every meeting ang the students achievement also
increase. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the activity of “lesson study”
can increase the quality of learning “Thermodinamics” in Physics Education PMIPA FKIP
UR academic year of 2010/2011.
