A research aims to determine the structure of fish communities and its relationship with water quality in the coastal area of the Meral Sub District was conducted in October – November 2012. The method used in this research is a case study method. Data were analysis using a Diversity Index (H '), Dominance Index (C) and Equitability Index (E) and the data of fish abundance were also obtained. Results shown that there were seven families of fish that were consisted of 12 species, namely: Caranx leptolepis, Chorinemus tala, Alectis indicus, Megalaspis cordyla, Cybium commersoni, Rastrelliger sp, Mugil belanak, Stromateus niger, Pampus argenteus, Pellona ditchela, Chirocentrus dorab, Ariius thallassinus. The fish abundance ranged from 0.126 - 0.220 fish/m2; H’ was 2.577 - 2.697; D was 0.196-0.202 ; E’ was 0.655-0.835; temperatures ranged from 29.5 to 31 ⁰C; turbidity ranged from 10 to 32 NTU; Velocity was from 22 to 31 cm/sec; pH 7; DO was from 3.3 to 3.7 mg/l, salinity was from 32 to 33 ‰; COD was from 199.92 to 214.20 mg/l. Cu contents ranged from 0.011 to 0.150 mg/l, Pb was ranged from 0.018 to 0.036 mg/l, Zn was ranged from 0.104 to 2.050 mg/l. Parameters water quality like a temperature, DO, velocity, turbidity and salinity giving direct impact between fish abundance and than parameters water quality giving indirect impact between fish abundance is COD and Cu, Pb and Zn.en_US
