VIABILITAS DAN VIGOR BIJI KAPUR (Dryobalanops oblongifolia Dyer.) DENGAN MEDIA SIMPAN SERBUK GERGAJI PADA BERBAGAI KADAR AIR

Abstract

Dryobalanops oblongifolia Dyer. (kapur) is Dipterocarpaceae species. The occurance of this species based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Resource (IUCN) is Crittically Endangered. The kapur seeds is a recalcitran seed, that has short storage time. This study aimed to test the viability and vigor of kapur at several levels of water in sawdust storage media. This study was carried out in the Biology garden, Departemen of Biology, Faculty of Math and Natural Science, University of Riau from January to March 2015. The design of this study was randomized block design with five repetitions and four different treatments of the storage was media water content, i.e. 0%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The seeds were stored for 2 and 4 weeks. During the storage, the seed morphology was changed. Viability of the seeds could still be maintained on sawdust storage media with water content of 20% and 30% if they were stored for 2 weeks, the percentage of germination reached 100%. The longer the storage period, the lower the viability and seed vigor. Viability droped to zero at 4 weed stored seed with water content of the media was 40%. The seeds which were stored for 2 and 4 weeks in a storage without any water content had a very low seed viability.
