Item MOTIVASI CINA MENOLAK PERMINTAAN DUKUNGAN AMERIKA SERIKAT TERKAIT SANKSI ANTI-MINYAK IRAN TAHUN 2011(2013-02-14) TAMBUNAN, RIAUNITA KETESAWThe purpose of this research is to analyze China’s motivation to decline U.S. proposal to impose anti-oil sanctions on Iran, because Iran has determined to continue its nuclear program. The U.S. suspects Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons that the U.S. campaign to the world that Iran is “rogue state” and Iran’s nuclear program also potentially threaten the world peace and security. The U.S. and other western countries urge Iran to immediately stop its nuclear program. However, Iran still claims that its nuclear program conducted for peaceful purposes, namely to help meet the electricity needs of the country and for medical purposes, namely the development of isotope. Data of this research were obtained from books, journals, reports, articles, and from websites. To analyze it, the writer use the nation state level of analysis with realism perspective, foreign policy theory, and energy security concept. The research shows that China’s refusal is caused by China is an advanced industrial country that can not be separated of high domestic energy needs. In the oil sector, China is a major buyer of Iranian oil. China is China is the country with the second largest oil consumption after U.S. China can not fully meet the level of its domestic energy consumption if only rely the domestic energy sources. Therefore, China must depend on energy supplies from other countries, including Iran.
