    Gambaran Pengetahuan dan Sikap Mahasiswa PreKlinik Universitas Riau tentang Kalkulus dan Karies Gigi

    Calculus and dental caries are tooth tissue damages caused by the bacterium Streptococcus mutans and plaque substances. Those are giving disturbance for someone’s living value. Students of Medical Faculty of Riau University (FK UR) had not a particular topic of dental health in the competency-based curriculum system (KBK). This research was to determine the knowledge and attitudes of preclinical Medicine students of Riau University on calculus and dental caries and also dental care knowledge. This was a descriptive research with 216 respondents. Respondents were divided into 54 respondents in each grade. Sample were taken by stratified random sampling based on the Slovin’s formula. Each respondent was asked to complete questionnaires about their knowledge and attitudes. The questionnaires prepared by researcher and had been tested the validity and reliability (Cronbach's alpha 0.67). The results in this research showed that 87.5% of preclinical students had good knowledge level and 61.1% had moderate attitudes about calculus and dental caries, 92.6% had good knowledge and 67.1% moderate of attitudes level of about dental care.in this research founded 0,5% respondents who had bad attitude about calculus and caries.
