Abstract

Pulai basung (Alstonia spatulata Bl) is a species of family apocynaceae that usually lives in the swamps and empirically used as traditional medicine by the people to treat fevers, worms and skin. This study aims to isolate the secondary metabolites compounds from the stem barks of extracts as well as their antioxidant activity using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazil (DPPH) method. Phytochemical analysis showed that the stem barks contained terpenoids and alkaloids. The n-hexane, dichloromethane and methanol extracts were obtained by using maceration extraction. The result of antioxidant activity test using DPPH method showed no antioxidant activity of n-hexane and dichloromethane extracts with IC50 >1000 μg/mL while the methanol extract showed any antioxidant activity, IC50 142,7401 μg/mL.
