Abstract:
Liquid waste produced by palm oil factory which has a high content organic material giving rise to pollution burden getting bigger, because it required the degradation of organic matter. One of the methods of processing of the adsorption of active charcoal adsorbent using banana peel kepok. This research aims to analyze the ability of banana peel kepok as adsorbent palm oil mill liquid waste, analyzing the concentration of BOD5, COD and nitrate before and after the addition of adsorbent to palm oil mill liquid waste. Determination of BOD5 with winkler method, COD was analyzed by closed reflux method and nitrate with brucine sulfate method. COD concentration was higher than BOD and nitrate concentration. The percentage of adsorption of adsorbent for decreasing concentration of BOD5 (27.73 %), COD (50.03 %) and nitrate (30.13 %). The consentrations of BOD5, COD and nitrate from the palm oil mill effluent before addition of adsorbent were 30.65 mg/L, 566.3 mg/L dan 7.3 mg/L while the decrease concentrations of BOD5, COD and nitrate after addition of adsorbent were 28.65 mg/L, 271.6 mg/L dan 5.1 mg/L.
