Abstract:
Measuring the magnetic properties of sand and dust along H.R.Soebrantas road in Pekanbaru City has been done. The sample were taken at seven point locations with the amount of 2.50 to 3.45 kg for each point location. The magnetic particles of the samples were separated from sand and dust using an Iron Sand Saparator. The total magnetic induction of the sample and concentrate were measured using a Pasco PS-2162 Magnetic Probe. In order to measure the magnetic induction of the samples a solenoid with dimension of 3 cm in diameter, length of 10 cm, and number of 2000. The non-core solenoid magnetic induction was measured as a function of applied currents (2, 4, 6, 8, 10)A and as a function of horizontal distance of 1-5 mm from the solenoid end. Total magnetic inductions (samples and concentrates) were measured as a function of the applied currents. The results showed that the highest of magnetic degree obtained from the fifth sample (Km. 11 in front of Auto accessories workshop Michelin) of 1.09% and the lowest level obtained from the sixth sample (Km.10,5 in front of Vanholland bakery of 0.48%. The highest magnetic susceptibility value obtained from the fifth sample concentrate that is 19164 x 10-5, and the lowest magnetic susceptibility value obtained from the sixth sample with the value of 14274 x 10-5. The result showed the values of mass susceptibility of concentrate of the sand and dust along the H.R.Soebrantas road obtained are in the interval (46 x 10-8 -80,000 x 10-8) m3 / kg, this interval implies that the mass suseptibility of the sample is in the range of Ilmenite (FeTiO3
