Abstract:
Biodiesel is renewable energy, biodegradable, and environmental friendly for diesel machine. One of the benefit of using biodiesel is reduce of fossil fuel usage. In this study, biodiesel was produced from used cooking oil by two step reactions that are esterification and transesterification reaction. For the esterification reaction used catalyst H2SO4 3% (w/w) weight of catalyst, 70 oC of reaction temperature, 2 hours of reaction time, 1:18 of oil and methanol mole reaction. While parametrs for transesterification reaction were varied including of the reaction time (1, 2, 3, and 4 hours) dan oil methanol mole ratio (1:6, 1:9, 1:12 and 1:15). Transesterification reaction used heterogenous base catalyst CaO from blood cockle shells calcination 900 oC for 10 hours. The yield of optimum biodiesel was 80.04% with optimum conduction transesterification using 3 hours of reaction time and 1:6 of oil and methanol mole ratio.
