Abstract:
A quality control of paving blocks with variation mixture between sand and cement by using
the experimental method has been conducted. This research was performed by varying the
ratio of the mixture of sand and cement used in the manufacture of paving blocks and
compared to the market after some measurement processes. The compositions of the mixture
of sand and cement in the manufacture of paving blocks are (50%:50%), (67%:33%),
(75%:25%), (80%:20%). The shape of samples is based on (Standar Nasional Indonesia)
SNI 03-0691-1996 with paving block size of 21 cm x 10,5 cm x 6 cm. The Paving blocks in
the market have an average density ± 2000 kg/m3, and a compressive strength range is of 3-
5 N/m2. The quality and characteristics of paving blocks can be determined by performing
several testing processes those are the density test, compressive strength test, porosity test
and water absorption test. The value of the average compressive strength and maximum
water absorption is imposed by (Badan Standarisasi Nasional) BSN on SNI 03-0691-1996.
The best paving block with the average compressive strength value and the average
maximum water absorption value are 29.93x106 N/m2 and 3.88%, which are carried out by
using the percentage of the mixture of (50%:50%), including to the quality of B for parking
lot. The paving blocks which can be found in the market has the average compressive
strength and the average maximum water absorption are 8.60x106 N/m2 and 9.14% including
to the quality of D for a park.
