Abstract:
Chalcones have some biological activities such as antimicrobe, antitumor, antioxidant,
antiinflammatory, antimalaria, and anticancer. In this research, a methoxy substituted
chalcone (E)-1-(phenyl)-3-(2-methoxyphenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one (EP1) was synthesized
using kalium hydroxide as catalyst under microwave irradiation and the compound
showed a good yield (49.18%) then characterized by UV, IR, 1H-NMR, and mass
spectroscopy. The toxicity activity of this compound was determined using Brine
Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method against Artemia salina Leach larvae and showed
a good activity with LC50 3.498 μg/mL. The result indicated that this compound was
potential as anticancer.
