Abstract:
Production and quality of Kaylan in Indonesia is still low. Production and quality
of Kaylan can be increased with organic and anorganic nitrogen fertilizer using from
vermicompost combination and urea fertilizer. The objectives of this experiment was to
find the best nitrogen fertilizer dose by giving vermicompost combination and urea
fertilizer as source of nitrogen to increase production and quality of Kaylan. The
experiment was conducted from March until May 2007 in green house at the Technical
Implementation Unit of Experimental garden of Agriculture, Riau University. The
experiment using Completed Block Design with 7 treatment and 3 replication. The
treatments as follow: A = 0 kg N/ha, B = 150 kg N/ha (120 kg N/ha from kascing and 30
kg N/ha from urea or 4:1), C = 150 kg N/ha (112,5 kg N/ha from kascing and 37,5 kg
N/ha from urea or 3:1), D = 100 kg N/ha (80 kg N/ha from kascing and 20 kg N/ha from
urea or 4:1), E = 100 kg N/ha (75 kg N/ha fi-om kascing and 25 kg N/ha from urea or
3:1), F = 50 kg N/ha (40 kg N/ha from kascing and 10 kg N/ha from urea or 4:1) and G =
50 kg N/ha (37,5 kg N/ha from kascing and 12,5 kg N/ha from urea or 3:1). Obtained
data then analyzed by variant analysis or F Test and conducted by DNMRT on 5% level.
Parameters observed = high of plant, leaves total, leaves length, leaves wide, wet weight,
analysis of vitamin C, analysis nitrogen at plant and colour test of kaylan leaves. The
experimental result show that the were significant for high of plant, leaves length and
leaves wide. The best dose of nitrogen fertilizer is treatment B =150 kg N/ha (120 kg
N/ha dari kascing dan 30 kg N/ha dari urea atau 4:1).
