Abstract:
Modernization process in urban development would support formal sectors and
informal sectors formed. One of the most informal sectors was hawkers. Spread of hawkers in
urban space of Pekanbaru such as pedestrian were influenced. Hawkers could not release
from urban space and it has influenced urban planning and urban design. Hawkers always
carry lot of problems related to urban space formation. Relocated hawkers from one place to
other place would not give the best solution and even getting worse face to the Local Authority.
The purpose of this article was given the solution through urban planning and design
approached. The SWOT analysis was used to analyze. Hawkers could not release from urban
development. It supposed to become a part of urban design and planning.
