Abstract:
The low safety factor (sea-worthy) in the fishing vessel, especially for tuna longliner became a serious concern for the government recently. Fishing vessels are the highest contributor in the number of accidents at sea. Thus it’s need to design a safety, economical and efficient fishing vessel to reduce fishing boat accidents at sea. The aims of this study to design an efficient and optimum tuna longliner in the Bungus Waters, West Sumatra. Tuna longliner designed is the result of main dimension optimization that have lower costs of building, lower power and safety that meets international regulations such as the stability according to IMO. The method used is survey method, ie by collecting data on geography, type of commodity, the amount of cargo, MSY and a review of economic aspects in the province. Then design vessel must be adjusted with technical aspects of design, safety and economy factor. The best efficient and optimum main dimension for design vessel is LWL = 29,27 m, LPP = 28,14 m, B =6,40 m, H = 3,57 m and T = 2,87 m. The design vessel comply the IMO requirement for stability.
