Abstract:
This study aims to produce a character assessment instruments for students of
junior high school science, physics subject, by referring ten character values
developed by the Ministry of Education. This type of research is R & D (research
and development), by Brog and Goll were modified by Sugiyono (2011).
Character assessment instrument which was developed in this study is in the form
of observations, and questionnaires (self-assessment and peer assessment). The
data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis techniques. The result of the
descriptive analysis shows that the instrument which was validated by lecturer of
physics education research validity index gained 3.22, this is categorized as high,
and validation of physical science teacher at SMP 8 Pekanbaru index gained 3.46
with very high category. It can be concluded that the values of the ten characters
listed on the junior high physical science subjects is viable to be used in teaching
and learning in schools.
