Abstract:
Long-term memory is a type of memory which relatively more permanent to store large
amounts information with a long period of time. Many factors that could influence the increasing
long-term memory are modification during retention, recall and recognition. Aspects for
retention are learning methods, such as a memory improvement techniques. The purpose of this
study was to determine the effect of memory improvement mnemonic for long-term memory
status on 1st year students of nursing study program Riau University. This study method was
analytic with case control design and Mann-Whitney test. The number of sample in this study
were 61 people using Tarro Yamane formula. This study used a word test to measure a long-term
memory status. The conclusion was memory improvement had influenced long term memory
status in 1st year student nursing study program Riau University (p < 0,05) between the control
group (16,85%) and the experiment group(44,69%). This study concluded that there was an
effect of memory improvement menmonic for long-term memory status on 1st year students of
nursing study program Riau University.
