Abstract:
Chalcone are known to exhibit various biological activities such as antioxidant,
antimalaria, anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. Chalcone as antioxidant
can neutralize free radicals by donating an electron to the reactive species. Two
analogous chalcone have been synthesized from 2-acetyl pyridine and methoxybenzaldehyd derivates with claisen schmidt condensation using base catalyst
KOH. The compounds of synthesized produce are 2,6-bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)- 4-hydroxy-4-(pyridine-2-yl)cyclohexane- 1,3-diil)bis(pyridine-2-ilmetanon) (SC1) and
(E)-3-(2,4,5-trimethoxy phenyl) -1-(pyridine-2-yl) prop-2-en-1-one (SC2). The productc of synthesis then characterized using UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass
spectroscopy. Antioxidant activity was tested using DPPH method and the standard
used is ascorbic acid. Assay results of the two compounds showed very weak
antioxidant activity because the IC50 is more than 250 ppm
