Abstract:
The research was conducted in August 2012, which took place in the waters of Beach Cliff
Pongkar Sub District Karimun Riau Islands Province. This study aimed to determine the pattern of tidal
currents and wave characteristics. The method used in this study is a survey method in the
determination of station data retrieval consists of 3 stations and 1 station consists of 3 sampling points
around the coast. Data retrieval research done at low tide and ebb tide towards the approaching tide.
Beaches Pongkar a coastal area that has a relatively narrow beach, sand bersubstrat, located along the
coast line along the coast so there are Pongkar vegetation Coconut tree (Cocos nucifera), Fir Tree
(Casuaria equesetifolia). Characteristics include wave height, period and wavelength at high tide and low
tide at station 2 is the largest when compared with the two other stations. Pongkar inshore depth value
is average - average 1.52 m - 1.66 m at high tide and 0.86 m - 1.09 m at low tide. Flow patterns that
occur when tidal flow is towards the East, at low tide reverse flow towards the West with the type of
flow is the flow along the coast (Longshore current) type tidal ebb and flow that happens is a daily mix
biased toward a double (Mixed, dominant semidiurnal) which occurs twice ups and downs twice in one
day but different heights.
