Abstract:
The Moringa oleifera plant is a plant that is widely used as a medicinal plant that
comes from the Moringa genus and belongs to the Moringaceae family. This study
aims to isolate the secondary metabolite compound n-hexane extract from the stem
bark of M. oleifera moringa and analyze its toxicity activity using the brine shrimp
lethality test (BSLT) method. The isolation of M. oleifera plants was carried out
using the maceration method, followed by compound separation through vacuum
liquid chromatography (VLC) and flash chromatography. The purity of the
compounds was analyzed through recrystallization, TLC, and melting point tests.
Characterization analysis was performed using FTIR spectroscopy. The isolation
and characterization of the n-hexane extract from M. oleifera stem bark produced a
pure compound coded MO-HF1-V4, which showed similarities to the steroid β-
sitosterol compound. Moreover, the toxicity analysis using the brine shrimp
lethality test (BSLT) method demonstrated the toxicity of the n-hexane extract from
M. oleifera stem bark.
