Abstract:
Kuantan Hilir District in Kuansing Regency has a long history of using various types of
plants in daily life. This study aimed to invent plants belonging to Zingiberaceae family
in Kuantan Hilir District which have potential as medicines so that this knowledge will
be inherited to the next generation. The study used the PRA (Participatory Rural
Appraisal) method, an assessment process that is oriented towards the involvement and
active role of the community in research site. Based on the results of interviews, it is
known that there are 7 species of medicinal plants member of Zingiberaceae family
which are used as medicinal plants by local people of Kuantan Hilir. These species are
Alpinia galanga, Zingiber cassumunar, Curcuma longa, Curcuma zanthorriza,
Kaempferia galanga, Zingiber officinale, and Alpinia zerumbet which are used in
treating various diseases, both medical and non-medical diseases.
