Abstract:
The aim of this study was to utilize nypa shells into activated carbon which is used as
adsorbent lead (II) ions. Nypa shells carbon made by carbonization at 500℃ for 1 hour.
Nypa shells carbon activated by microwave at 600 W for 10 minutes. Activated carbon
of nypa shells applied to adsorb lead (II) ions with variation of dose adsorbent and
contact time. The concentration of lead (II) ion in the solution analized by ICP-OES
instrument. The result showed the optimum dose of activated carbon of nypa shells used
in absorbing lead (II) ions of 2.5 g with an adsorption efficiency of 98.92% and the
optimum contact time occured at 90 minutes with an adsorption efficiency of 99.53%. It
concluded that activated carbon of nypa shells have the potential to be an adsorbent in
adsorbing lead (II) ions.
