High density polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the sources of environmental pollution
since it is naturally difficult to be degraded. Biodegradation by microorganism is an
effective approach to reduce the amount of plastic in the environment. This study
aimed to select the ability of 15 isolates of local Riau fungi that are able to degrade
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. Fungi were selected for their ability to
grow on MSA medium with the addition of 0.1% w/v HDPE powder. The results
showed that 14 isolates were able to grow on a medium containing HDPE powder.
LL-B07 and LM-B07 demonstrated the largest growth diameter at 14 days after
incubation. Characterization was carried out based on isolates with the highest growth
diameter. |
