Abstract:
Dengue virus infection causes dengue hemorrhagic fever which may cause mortality in
a short period. The use of herbal antivirals made from a plant extract can be applied as
the alternative medicine. Macang is rich in antioxidant compounds, has the potential as
antiviral agent and medicinal ingredients. This study aimed to characterize in vitro
potency of three varieties of macang against dengue virus. Antiviral activity test was
carried out using the Viral ToxGlo Assay method. Data analysis used one-way ANOVA
(analysis of variance) test with Duncant Multiple Range Test (DMRT) test using SPSS
for Windows 23 program. The results showed that macang stem bark extract of Limus,
Manis and Batu varieties could potentially be used as dengue antiviral. The strongest
dengue antiviral activity obtained in macang varieties of Batu with a concentration of
100 μg/ml with a mean RLU value of 1.52E+05.
