Abstract:
The aim of the research is to determine the effect of milling time on themagnetic
susceptibility andsize distribution of magnetic nanoparticles of natural sand
collected from Sungai Suci Beach at Pondok Kelapa County, Bengkulu Tengah
District, Bengkulu Province. Particle size of magnetic nanoparticles were
determined using Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). The samples were processed by Iron
Sand Separator (ISS) and Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet prior to ball
milling process. The Products of NdFeB were milled using Ball Milling stage 1 for
60 hours using a combination of milling balls with diameter of 0.5, 0.7, and 1,5 cm.
This product is called product of BM I. Product of BM I divided into 3 parts and
each milled using ball milling stage 2 as a function milling time of 20, 40, and 60
hours. This product is called BM II A, BM B and BM II C product The magnetic
induction of the products was measured using Pasco magnetic Probe PS-2162. The
result showed that magnetic susceptibility increases from 7572.66 x 10-5, 8957.01x
10-5, 10652x10-5 dan 12108.23 x 10-5 with increasing milling time of 0, 20, 40 and
60 hours. PSA results show that the size of magnetic nanoparticles decrease from
659, 655 to 548 nm with increasing milling time of 20, 40 to 60 hours.
