Assesment conducted in dryland Tandun, Rokan Hulu districts with slope 9% in MT 2010. The assesment was designed with a randomized block design with two factors with three replications. The first factor is soybean planting systems which include: (A) 10 cm spacing in rows parallel to the contour, and 40 cm between rows. (B) in rows 20 cm spacing of parallel contours, and 40 cm between rows and (C) the way farmers (spacing of 20 cm x 40 cm). The second factor is the provision of rice straw mulch with a dose of: (a) without mulch (b) 2 t/ha (c) 4 t/ha, and (d) 6 t/ha. Observations included the growth and yield of soybean. The results of the study showed significant cropping system on growth, and yield of soybean. Planting system of A gives the best results. Mulching effect on the growth and yield of soybean. Planting and mulching system significantly affect the growth and yield of soybean.
