Lignin compounds are classified as chemical components that can be converted into activated charcoal. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of carbonization temperature in converting the shells of kepatang into activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is made by carbonization of CBK at temperature variations of 400°C, 500°C and 600°C for 30 minutes and is labeled ACBK-400, ACBK-500 and ACBK-600. All ACBK were characterized by gravimetric and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The results showed that the highest yield of charcoal was at ACBK-400 of 33.03%, the lowest moisture content was in ACBK-500 of 5.90% and the lowest ash content was in ACBK-400 of 0.78%. XRD analysis showed that ACBK has an amorphous structure with the largest Lc/La ratio at ACBK-600.enactive charcoalcarbonizationketapang seed shellsSINTESIS ARANG AKTIF CANGKANG BIJI KETAPANG (Terminalia catappa) DENGAN VARIASI TEMPERATUR KARBONISASIArticle
