dc.description.abstract A total of 76.45 g viscous water extract has been isolated by maceration of powdered yellow watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) rind (1300 g). The extract was then separated by column chromatography which produced 5 fractions. Antimicrobial assay was performed by the agar diffusion method against Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli), Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and fungus Candida albicans. The results showed that both extract and fractions were active in inhibiting the growth of both bacteria, but not for the growth of C. albicans. The best activity was shown by F2 (10 mm) againts Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) and F3 (8 mm) againts Grampositive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus). en_US
