Abstract:
Biodiesel is a mixture of monoalkyl esters of long chain fatty acids. Biodiesel is one of alternative fuel to replace diesel engines. In this research, biodiesel was produced from CPO (crude palm oil) raw material through by two step reaction is esterification and transesterification. The esterification reaction by 2% (w/w) H2SO4 catalyst, temperature 65 oC, reaction time 3 hours, mol ratio of oil:methanol 1:24 and transesterification reaction catalyzed with CaO from blood cockle calcined at 900 oC for 10 hours. The parameters varied are the reaction transesterification which weight of CaO catalyst and mol ratio of oil:methanol. The maximum biodiesel produced was 87,17%, by the optimum condition of transesterification was weight of CaO catalyst 3% (w/w) and the mole ratio of oil:methanol was 1:6.n
