Abstract:
Masonry infill is usually used to separate one room with another room or
element which functions as exterior partition of building. In low or medium
building, masonry infill is installed after main structures have already finished, so
installing the masonry infill and finishing the building done at the same time.
Although the masonry infill considered as non structural element but it has
inclination to connect to portal, by giving stiff and strength to structure when it is
given strong horizontal load or earth quake. The purpose of the research is to find
out characteristic of portal with masonry infill structure using steel and without
using steel when it is given axial lateral load.
The research show that portal with masonry infill structure using steel
with dimension 0,75 m in height and 0,45 m in width is the strongest it can
withstand to maximal load of 12,4 ton and has 16,3 mm deflection, even though
portal with masonry infill structure without using steel with dimension 0,75 m in
height and 0,45 m in width can withstand to maximal load of 9,3 ton and has
12,55 mm deflection, portal with masonry infill structure using steel has
dimension 1,25 m in height and 0,5 m in width can withstand to maximal load of
10,4 ton and has 10,91 mm deflection and , portal with masonry infill structure
without using steel has dimension 1,25 m in height and 0,5 m in width can
withstand to maximal load of 11,2 ton and has 14,23 mm deflection.
