Abstract:
Stroke is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer in the elderly. Stroke can result from a variety of risk factors, including hypertension and high LDL levels. This study aimed to describe the levels of LDL cholesterol and blood pressure of stroke patients who were treated in neurology departement RSUD Arifin Achmad Pekanbaru. This research is a descriptive study with a retrospective approach. LDL cholesterol levels of patients were assessed using standard of NCEP / ATP III, and the patient's blood pressure at the time of initial hospital admission assessed by JNC VII. Total sample was 107 patients of stroke. Based on the results of the study, the highest type of stroke is non hemorrhagic stroke with 76 patients (71%). Hypertension was found in 96 patients (89.71%), and high LDL cholesterol were found in 25 patients (23.4%). The highest combination of risk factors found in stroke patients with high LDL cholesterol and hypertension, as many as 23 patients (21.49%).
