Abstract:
Tuberculosis is an infection disease caused by Mycobaterium tuberculosis.
This kind of tuberculosis spreads very easily. This contagion happens through the
inhalation of bacilli that contains droplet nuclei from the infectious pulmonary
tuberculosis, patient with positive Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear. The type of the
patients with positive Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear, most of them are new cases; the
tuberculosis patients that never get anti tuberculosis drug or they ever get, but not
more than a month. According to WHO report in 2009, the new cases of pulmonary
tuberculosis patients with positive Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear in Indonesia
reached 61%. This was a retrospective descriptive study using the total sampling
method to know the characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis patients new case with
positive Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear in Arifin Achmad General Hospital period
January 2009 to December 2012. The samples of the study are 94 people. The result
of this study : who get treatment are 21 samples (22.3%) most of them are in 35-44
years and the highest gender are men. The primary complaint is cough, that 36
samples (38,3%). Generally, patients’ job are non-civil servant, 68 samples (72,3%).
The kind of treatment mostly use are with programs. They are 60 people (63,8%).
Conversion rates of Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB) are 67 samples (71,3%).
