Abstract:
The efficacy of senduduk leaves (Melastoma malabathricum L.) for burn wound healing has not been known clinically. Senduduk leaves have active compounds which contribute in accelerating of burn wound healing, with a complex process. This study aimed to compare the healing of time second-degree burns in rats treated with extract cream of senduduk leaves, MEBO and aquadest (moist dressing). Eighteen male Wistar rats 200-300 g body weight were randomly divided into three groups. Group I was treated with extract cream of senduduk leaves, group II was treated with MEBO, group III was treated with aquadest. The healing time was counted every day since first day of treatment until the burn wound recovered completely. The results showed there was no different in healing time between group I and group II (p = 0.634) statistically but a significant difference found if compared with group III (p = 0.001). In conclusion, the extract cream of senduduk leaves showed the same efficacy with MEBO and better effect than aquadest on second degree burn wound healing in rats.
