ABSTRACT
Nosocomial infection or hospital’s infection is an infection which is obtained during the
treatment in the hospital where the disease of this kind of infection is not the main cause of the
patient for being hospitalized and the patient is not in an incubation period of infectious
diseases. A descriptive research has been done during October 2011 until January 2012 in order
to detect negative-gram bacteria that produced Extended Spectrum Betalactamase (ESBL) and
resistance pattern on patient who has been treated in the ICU room of Arifin Achmad general
hospital. Multi-resistance antibiotic has been found a lot in isolates of negative-gram rod
bacteria. It was 6 negative-gram bacteria produced ESBL have been found in isolates of sputum
and urine which is Klebsiella sp as much as 57.1%. Those isolates which are mentioned before
were sensitive to the antibiotic meropenem, chloramphenicol, and amikacin.
