Abstract:
Indonesia’s Human Development Index (HDI) has always increased over the last twelve
years, but the HDI of each regencies/cities very diverse. This shows that human
development in Indonesia has not been evenly distributed so that it is necessary to group
regencies/cities in Indonesia based on the HDI indicator. This study aims to perform a
cluster analysis in classifying regencies/cities in Indonesia based on HDI indicators,
namely life expectancy, average length of schooling, expected length of schooling and
per capita expenditure using the Ward. The results of this study formed 3 clusters with
cluster I being a group of regencies/cities with moderate human development consisting
of 289 regencies/cities, cluster II with a low level of 122 regencies/cities, and cluster III
with a high level consisting of 103 regencies/cities. The clustering that has been done
produces a minimum standard deviation ratio within the cluster to the standard deviation
between clusters of 0.392.
