Abstract:
Petai (Parkia speciosa) is an annual tree species of the legume tribe. Petai plants are
widely found in tropical region. Petai is also known as a medicinal plant because it is
useful as an antioxidant, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antitumor, antiulcer, and
antibacterial. Molecular research on petai is still limited, so that molecular information
on this plant is still not widely available in Genbank database. The initial stage of
molecular analysis in plants is DNA isolation, therefore experiment to isolate total DNA
of petai needs to be done. The method used in this study consisted of isolation of total
DNA from young and fresh leaves of petai plants from 3 individuals, namely P2, P4,
and P6 using the Genomic DNA Mini Kit Plant (Geneaid) DNA isolation kit and
electrophoresis using 1% agarose gel. The results of this study showed that the DNA
bands obtained were intact, bright, single, and not smeared and measuring more than
10,000 bp.
