Abstract:
Peperomia pellucida or sirih Cina (also called suruhan, tumpang air, sasaladahan) is a
herbal plant that has many benefits. This plant has the potential to produce secondary
metabolites that might have antidiabetic activity. The aim of this study was to determine
the secondary metabolites contained in the P. pellucida plant and to test the activity of
the ethyl acetate extract of this plant as an antidiabetic. Phytochemical tests in this study
indicated the presence of secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, saponins,
phenolics and steroids. The test was carried out with α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition
method using p-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside (p-NPG) as a substrate and compared
with acarbose as a positive control. The results of the antidiabetic test analysis it was
found that a inhibition persentage of the ethyl acetate extract was 28,1957 compared to
the n-hexane extract of 0,83222 and the methanol extract of 8,25566. This shows that
the ethyl acetate extract has potential as an antidiabetic
