Item THE IMPACTS OF CERTIFICATION POLICY ON TEACHERS’ WORKING PERFORMANCE: A CASE OF RIAU(2014-04-10) Suarman; Aziz, Zahara; Yasin, Ruhizan MohammadThe aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the students’ perception of the quality of teaching and learning and their satisfaction in a great university in Indonesia, which was very important in the effort of upgrading the quality of higher education. A survey research involving the sample of 387 students was conducted. The research instruments of the study regarding the quality of teaching and learning consisted of aspects such as the courses, lecturers’ motivation, instructional design, relationship among students, relationship between students and lecturers, task assignment, lecturers’ efficiency, evaluation, obstacles and restraints, as well as the instrument for measuring students’ satisfaction. The research findings were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as T-Test, correlation, and regression. The findings showed that students’ perception of the quality of teaching and learning was at the moderate level, and students’ satisfaction was also at the moderate level. Based on the inferential statistics, it was indicated that there was a difference in the perception of the quality of teaching and learning concerning the gender, study period, and field of study. Similarly, there was also a difference in students’ satisfaction based on gender, study period, and field of study. The correlation analysis showed that students’ perception of the quality of teaching and learning had a positive relationship with their satisfaction, whereas the results of the regression test presented the existence of the 9 dimensions of positive contributions of the quality of teaching and learning in relation to students’ satisfaction. The study recommendation is that the university find out about students’ needs in the teaching and learning processes, including the physical needs or methods of generating a better relationship between the students and university as well as among students in order to enhance the quality of higher education. Thus, the main implication of this study regarding the education discipline was the discovery of the status of the quality of teaching and learning in an educational institution as the principal factor of the increment in students’ satisfactionItem KETERAMPILAN PROSES DAN PENGUASAAN KONSEP SISWA MELALUI MODEL PEMBELAJARAN PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) DALAM PEMBELAJARAN BIOLOGI KELAS XI IPA MAN 2 MODEL PEKANBARU TAHUN AJARAN 2010/2011(2014-04-12) Syafii, Wan; Yasin, Ruhizan Mohammad; Yusuf, Yustini; Fitria, ApniTelah dilakukan penelitian yang bersifat eksperimen semu yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dalam hal keterampilan proses, penguasaan konsep dan hasil belajar siswa melalui model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) dalam pembelajaran biologi di kelas XIIPA MAN 2Model Pekanbaru Tahun Ajaran 2010/2011. Experiments in this case use simple science media. This research aims to improve the concept mastery of physic learning school I through the improvement of student learning activities and the quality of simple science media made by students about kinematics and dynamics. The instruments were used in collecting data: student activity observation sheet, media quality assessment sheet, questioner of student motivation and achievement test. The subject of this research is 25 students of physic education program. This action research uses Kemmis model which based on 4 components research like planning, action, observation and reflection. Based on data analysis, it can be shown that: the quality of simple science media increased in each cycle which high category in third cycle. The learning motivation increased from 2.9 to 3.1 in high category. The student physics concept achievement is 65 higher than previous physic class, 62. So, it can be concluded that physics concept mastery in “ physics school 1” for physics education students can be improved through learning activities of constructivism laboratory.Item PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS AND LEARNING ACHIEVEMENTS THROUGH THE USE OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING MODUL IN TEACHING AND LEARNING BIOLOGY AT A HIGH SCHOOL(2014-04-14) Syafii, Wan; Yasin, Ruhizan MohammadThe present research which was conducted at SMAN I Pekanbaru seeks to find out the effectivness of the use of problem-based learning (PBL) modul on a problem-solving skill and learning achievement. It applies a quasy-experiment method of a non-equivalent pretest and posttest control group design. It involves two classes, namely Class XI, Sciences 1 as the control group and Class XI Sciences 2 as the experimental group. The percentage of the problem-solving skill of the students in the experimental group was 95.47% which is in a very good category. The percentage of the problem-solving skill of the students in the control group was 25.12% which is in a low category. The average mastery score of the students in the experimental group was 84.26 (good), and those in the control group was 79.08 (enough). The average achievement score of the students in the experimental group was 89.89 which is in a good category and those in the control group was 52.10 which is in a low category. The results show that the use of the problem-based learning modul in teaching and learning biology has successfully increased the problem-solving skills, biology achievement and the learning achievement of the student. Thus, the students in the experimental group are better than those in the control group in relation to problem-solving skill, the learning achievement and mastery through the use of problem-based learning modul in teaching and learning Biology at Class XI Sciences, SMAN 1 Pekanbaru
