Abstract

Lead metal (Pb) is a metal that is very popular and widely known, usually obtained from waste that is very dangerous because of its high toxicity that can destroy the environment. This is due to a large number of Pb used in the non-food industry and causes the most poisoning to living things. Reduction of chemical pollutant is often carried out using ingredients that can absorb pollutants. Natural organic materials that have hydroxyl groups (-OH) can be used to absorb heavy metal ions. One of the materials that can be used is peanut shell. This study is carried out from March 2018 to June 2018. The data of this study were processed from measurements using AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy), and the data obtained were absorbance and Pb ion concentration. The results are then calculated using the calculation of Absorption Effectiveness (%). From the results where peanut shell powder (Arachis hypogaea L) is used as an absorbent of lead (Pb) metal, it can be concluded that the best condition of Pb metal adsorption were obtained with the particle size of 125 μm, where the absorption capacity of the biobsorbent towards metal is 97.89 %. Moisture affects the absorption process, where the higher the amount of water, the less effective the absorption is. From the results of statistical tests, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the size of peanut skin particles and the effectiveness of Pb metal absorption.
