Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of activated charcoal as an
adsorbent that tested by determination of sorption capacity of iodine and methylen blue
and applied to adsorbed cadmium (II) ions on solution. In this study the activator used
was HCl with variation concentration of 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5%. The characterization result
indicated that the charcoal from avocado seed with concentration 7.5% and gives the best
result that the adsorptionthrought iodine and methylen blue were 512.02 mg/g and 5.96
mg/g respectively. The best charcoal of avocado seed was applied to ion cadmium (II)
that was analyzed using Atomic Adsorption of Spectrofotometer (AAS). The result
showed that the charcoal of avocado seed activated with 7.5% has efficiency adsorption
of 77.83 and capacity adsorption of 0.26 mg/g.
