Abstract

Kluwak (Pangium edule Reinw) is a plant found in Asia, especially in Indonesia. It has not been studied comprehensively. The results of phytochemical test from seed flesh (endosperm) of kluwak showed that this plant contains secondary metabolites alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, flavonoid, and phenolic. n-Hexane extract the endosperm separated as oil seeds and analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). The results of the analysis using gas chromatography showed 7 peaks and mass spectroscopy analysis revealed a number of major constituents of oil compound in the form of diethyl phthalate (2.49%), methyl palmitate (10.85%), cycloocta pyran-1,3,5,6,7,8,9,10- hexahydro-4-isopropyl-1-phenyl (1,45%), methyl oleate (66.05%), and methyl stearate (10.85%). The antibacterial activity were determined by agar diffusion method against Bacillus subtilis (Gram-positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative bacteria). Biological data indicated that the extract has activity against both bacterial test with 7,1 mm of diameter inhibition zone against the bacteria Bacillus subtilis and 6,9 -11,0 mm against the bacteria Escherichia coli. Toxicity test was conducted using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). The toxicity results showed that the n-hexane extract of the endosperm of kluwak did not show potential as anticancer compounds proven with LC50 > 1000 ppm.
