Abstract:
This experiment was conducted to examine the utilization of defatted
soybean meal (SBM) as a fish meal (FM) substitute in the feeds for freshwater
catfish {Mystus nemurus C V ) . The levels o f substitution of F M by S B M were 0,
25, 50, 75 and 100% o f dietary protein, respectively (Diets A . B, C , D and E.
respectively). The diets were formulated to contain 35%) protein. Diets were fed to
experimental fish twice daily at a feeding rate o f 10%) body weigh: per day for 56
days. A substitution level of 25%) (diet B) resulted in the highest absolutely
growth rate, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, and protein retention. Based on
the evaluation of these parameters, it is concluded that defatted soybean meal
(SBM) can substitute 25% o f the protein for fish meal in the diets of freshwater
catfish {Mysliis ricmiinis C V ) .
