Abstract
Dandruff is an abnormally scalp which characterized by flaking and itching. It caused by several factors, one of it is dermatophytes fungi. Watermelon and mangosteen epicarp have phytochemical compound which is potentially used as antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal. This study aimed to test the ability of phytochemical compound in watermelon and mangosteen epicarp againts Microsporum canis fungi from dandruff sufferers. Watermelon and mangosteen epicarp were processed for dry and fresh extracts. Each extract was dissolved with 3 different solvent, e.g: aquabides, heated aquabides and alcohol. Azole antibiotics (ketoconazole 1%, itraconazole 1%, and griseofulvin 1%) were used as control. Antifungal activity was tested using paper disc method. The result indicated that both of fresh or dry extract of watermelon and magosteen epicarp were not potentially inhibits Microsporum canis. Ketoconazole 1% has moderate activity againts Microsporum canis with inhibition zone diameter was 22,875 mm, and followed by itrakonazole 1% (13,17 mm). The test of griseofulvin againts Microsporum canis showed that this antibiotic was unable to inhibit Microsporum canis
