Abstract
The research has been to increase motivation and result of students learning biology
class VIIB SMP N 9 Penyengat with application of learning strategies The Power Of Two
(TPOT). This research is classroom action research conducted in March to April 2013.
Research subjects were students in grade VIIB SMP N 9 Penyengat, amounting with to 20
student (11 male and 9 female). The parameters in this research were study motivation
(indicators: interest, relevancy, expectation and result), the results of students learning which
consists of absorption, complete learn, and teacher activity. The results of this research mean
motivation score before application of learning strategy TPOT 3.18% (medium category) and
after application of learning strategy TPOT 4.09% (high category) and the percentage increase
28.92%. The percentage increase of students motivation cycle I is 19.91% and the percentage
increase of students motivation cycle II is 18.56%. Students absorption experience of
improvement, at cycle I with mean 68.50% (quite category), and cycle II with mean 83.25%
(good category). Complete learn students experience of improvement percentage at cycle I is
75% and cycle II 100%. The average activity of the teacher cycle I is 88.45% (excellent
category) and cycle II is 100% (excellent category). Thus the application of learning strategies
TPOT can improve motivation and result of students learning biology class VIIB SMP N 9
Penyengat, Tanjungpinang 2012/2013 school year.
