Abstract:
The elasticity of soil as a parameter to determine the strength of the foundation on Riau University Hospital has been investigated. This study used an experimental method using a Sonic Wave Analyzer equipment (SOWAN). In this
study the soil was made by a pipe with the diameter 6,25 cm and length 20 cm to
provide 9 samples which are numbered from 1 to 9. After that, the samples were put into the oven with temperature 110 0 C for 1 hour to remove the existing water in the samples. Next step is to another the delay time and velocity of acoustic waves for each samples by using (SOWAN). The results that obtained from each sample are the average of soil elasticity values Young's i,e modulus 30,8 x106 (N/m2) -79,9 x106 (N/m2), the bulk modulus 15,5 x106 (N/m2) - 42,6 x106 (N /
m2), the shear modulus 13,3 x106 (N/m2) - 33,9 x106 (N/m2), and the Lame constants 62,0 x10 5 (N/m2) - 18,9 x106 (N/m2). Based on the data the best samples are that can spread acoustic waves is soil sample number 3.
