Abstract
The objective of this research was to cross two rice varieties between IR64 as female parent and Siam Sintanur as male parent, in order to obtain a new rice genotype that can be grown on Fe toxicsoil. This research had been carried out at Biology Garden and Genetic Laboratory, Department of Biology, FMIPA-UR from November 2012 to March 2013. A single crossing method is used in this study and done with spread and stick techniques. The results showed that different agronomic characters were observed in both of parents. The characters of IR64 i.e. the plant height, floweringdays, number of productive tillers, plant age, weight of 1000 grains, and the number grain per penicle were 65-85 cm, 59-63 days, 11-20, 81-98 days, 21 grams, and 35-105 grains, respectively. While for Siam Sintanur were 72-94 cm, 60-63 days, 11-19, 88-96 days, 23 grams, and 47-158 grains, respectively. The crossing percentage for spread technique was 5,14% and for stick technique was 3,33%, with total percentage was 4,68 %. So, spread technique more effective and efficient to cross rice plant.
